What is a hypercar?
The features that make the current Hispano Suiza cars authentic hypercars

  • Elegance: they retain the DNA of the first Hispano Suiza vehicles: their design is based on the 1930s H6C Dubonnet Xenia
  • Dream features: developed by experienced Formula E racing engineers
  • Exclusivity: each Hispano Suiza is unique, the client can choose between more than 1900 different combinations

Barcelona, February 6, 2023. The Hispano Suiza Carmen and Carmen Boulogne have marked a before and after in the automotive industry, in the same way that their predecessors did more than a century ago.
Pioneers in technology, elegance, exclusivity, and performance, the Hispano Suiza Carmen and Carmen Boulogne have earned the title of hypercars, a concept that raises the capabilities of these vehicles to a new level.

  • Technology

The Hispano Suiza have been developed, quite literally, on the racetrack. Renowned motorsport engineers, technicians and mechanics, with experience in Formula E make up the Hispano Suiza Technical Team. In addition to that, the brand’s development driver is former Formula 1 and touring car ace Luis Pérez-Sala, who completed countless km behind the wheel of the Carmen on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and the roads surrounding it.

Hispano Suiza Carmen

For all these reasons, it is no secret that Hispano Suiza created a vehicle ahead of its time, using cutting-edge technology rarely seen before in a model designed for road use.

The result is a vehicle delivering 1,114 CV of power – the Carmen Boulogne – and 1,019 CV – the Carmen – with a fully electric engine, with a driving range of 400 km on a full charge in zero emission mode. All this thanks to the 80 kWh battery it is fitted with.

Hispano Suiza Carmen Boulogne
  • Performance

What would a hypercar be without dream performances? Both the Carmen and Carmen Boulogne can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than three seconds. With prodigious power (820kW) and a curb weight of just 1,690kg (60kg less in the case of the Boulogne version), the Carmen delivers outstanding performance.
Although it is designed for the road, it feels perfectly at ease on the racetrack, just like a racecar.

  • Design

Design is one of the hallmarks and differentiating factors for Hispano Suiza. The brand has taken care of the details both inside and outside and ensured to make everyone entering one of its vehicles feel that they are inside one of the most exclusive cars ever created.

For the exterior of the Carmen, Hispano Suiza took the iconic 1930s H6C Dubonnet Xenia as an inspiration. An evolution of the Xenia, the Dubonnet was more powerful and had a more aerodynamic body. The Carmen is a modern representation of that car, adapted to the new times, with an electric motor and featuring the most advanced technology.

As for the interior, the Hispano Suiza features the best materials, inspired by the interiors of the most luxurious Hispano Suiza models of the past. The two-seater cabin exudes refinement and opulence, perfectly complementing its performance. On the dashboard, for example, high-quality machined aluminum and wood trim are used. The classic clock located in the middle of the dashboard is a nod to the clocks of the first cars of the brand. Likewise, the triangular gear selector is a nod to the steel triangle that could be found on previous models of the brand.

  • Exclusivity

No two Hispano Suiza are the same, and that is also an important feature of the hypercar concept, since each owner can have a bespoke model in their garage, made specifically for them, thanks to the “Unique Tailormade” programme. Thanks to it, Hispano Suiza clients can choose from more than 1,904 combinations for the interior and exterior of their new Carmen, thus configuring a unique model.

Production of the Hispano Suiza Carmen and Carmen Boulogne is limited to 24 units in total.

  • Legend

Hispano Suiza represents pure history of the Spanish, European and global automotive industry. Founded in Barcelona in 1904, the company manufactured more than 12,000 cars and 50,000 aircraft engines in its first era, between 1904 and 1946. Its pioneering character, design, performance, quality and luxury attracted aristocrats, intellectuals and artist, such as King Alfonso XIII of Spain, Coco Chanel, Albert Einstein or Pablo Picasso.

Hispano Suiza joins Auto Design & Sketching course launched by the Petersen Automotive Museum and Yellowbrick H

  • Hispano Suiza Design Director, Francesc Arenas, shares his knowledge with future car designers
  • The Auto Design & Sketching course, online and totally free, is structured in three modules
  • Yellowbrick, a world leader in online education, and the Petersen Automotive Museum teamed up to empower the next generation of industry professionals

Barcelona, December 27, 2022. Francesc Arenas, Hispano Suiza Design Director, is one of the prominent figures who has joined the Auto Design & Sketching online course recently launched by the Petersen Museum and the Yellowbrick online education platform.

“It ́s an honour and a real pleasure to be included amongst the designers of the future. I like to think of designers as guardians: every time we start a project, we are working to shape a vision of something that can become a reality over the coming years, at least as far as mobility is concerned. This requires the ability to transfer a vision that comes from our minds, into something tangible”, says Francesc Arenas.

The course consists of three modules, with short chapters lasting from 6 to 15 minutes. The first of them delves into the principles of design and its history. The second module consists of real case studies and, finally, a third, practical module to learn how to draw like a real car designer, from simple lines to futuristic concepts. All three modules of Auto Design & Sketching are now available online. Participants only need to provide an email address and be at least 13 years of age to participate.

This course is designed to be the first step for students, passionate about the automotive sector, who want to direct their career toward design in the transport sector. “High-level training in this field is not always easily accessible to everyone. We wanted to remove some barriers and offer a free training programme involving leading figures in the industry,” says Justin Wolske, director of partnerships and strategic initiatives for Yellowbrick.

Different era, same DNA: the Hispano Suiza Xenia Dubonnet and the Carmen, together for the very first time

  • Hispano Suiza brings together its past and present at the Château de Chantilly (France)
  • The design of the Hispano Suiza Carmen is inspired by the 1938 Hispano Suiza Xenia Dubonnet
  • Over the years, Hispano Suiza has preserved its original DNA and values: elegance, sportiness, and exclusivity.

Barcelona, September 26, 2022. Hispano Suiza has brought together for the first time two of its most iconic cars, the historic 1938 Xenia Dubonnet, and the all-electric Carmen. The stage was the “Chantilly Arts et Élégance” concours, held at the majestic Château de Chantilly, just North of Paris. Despite their 81-year age gap, both models share many similarities, since the Xenia Dubonnet was the inspiration for the design of the Carmen, a model with which Hispano Suiza made its return to the automotive world just over three years ago. The Xenia Dubonnet currently belongs to the Mullin Automotive Museum Collection.

The Xenia Dubonnet is considered one of the most elegant and innovative cars in the history of Hispano Suiza. It was created by André Dubonnet, an aviator, athlete, racing driver and inventor who knew the potential of Hispano Suiza engines, since he had used them on his airplanes and had competed with them in car races. Amazed by its capabilities, he decided to purchase a Hispano Suiza H6C, which he chose to personalise with a new, more aerodynamic bodywork and also with the independent suspension system that he himself had patented. He named it after his wife, Xenia, and unveiled it in 1938.

This model, of incomparable elegance and design, served as an inspiration for the current Hispano Suiza design team, led by Francesc Arenas, to shape the new era of Hispano Suiza with the Carmen, a modern representation of the brand evolution over time. “When we designed the Carmen, we were adamant that we should capture our DNA and connect with the roots of the brand. There is no doubt that we have achieved it. You just have to look at the wheel arch and the rear of the car, as well as the belt line”, explains Francesc Arenas, director of Design at Hispano Suiza.

The meeting between the two Hispano Suiza cars took place at the Château de Chantilly, a majestic 19th century building, located just North of Paris. Some of the most elegant automobiles in the world, both current and historical, gathered there in an event marked by luxury and exclusivity, with special attention to art, fashion, and elegance. The Hispano Suiza Carmen shared centre stage with other brand classics such as a 1911 Alfonso XIII or the H6 Torpedo Duvivier.
Sergio Martínez Campos, CEO of Hispano Suiza, took part in the award ceremony by handing over the ́Concours d’état ́ trophy in the Hispano Suiza category, precisely to the Xenia Dubonnet.

The exhibition, which has already opened its doors, will last until May 24th, 2023.

Hispano Suiza will also take part in the Petersen Museum’s 28th Annual Gala dinner to be held on Saturday, October 1st. During the dinner, a Hispano Suiza Experience will be auctioned off among the 600 attendees. It includes, among other activities, a test drive with the Hispano Suiza Carmen Boulogne in the surroundings of the picturesque Peralada Castle and a visit to the New Winery, designed by RCR architecture studio and the first in Europe with a LEED GOLD sustainability certificate.

All proceedings will be donated to the Petersen Museum Foundation.
